A closer look at how Village works.
Village is a co-parenting app that turns the daily logistics of two homes into one shared space you and your co-parent can both see and act on, with as little back-and-forth as possible. It works whether you are coordinating with a co-parent or running things on your own. Here’s how it works, feature by feature.
Smart packing reminders for every custody exchange.
One of the hardest parts of co-parenting is managing the things that move between two homes, and the parent doing the packing isn’t always the one who knows what’s needed next. Village closes that gap. Ahead of every exchange, it looks at the whole stretch ahead, your calendar, and the local forecast, and suggests what’s easy to forget: rain boots for a wet Tuesday, a gift for Saturday’s party. Every suggestion is yours to add or skip. For a parent on their own, that is already a smoother exchange: a smart, ready list to pack from and check off, so nothing gets missed. With your co-parent on Village too, it goes further. One of you builds the list and shares it, the other packs and checks it off, and you both watch it come together without a single text or call. A handoff handled on a shared visual list, instead of a back-and-forth thread, means less to misread and fewer chances for friction in an already busy day. Either way, fewer forgotten items, and fewer trips back for the thing left behind.
- Village looks across the whole custody period, each child’s events, and the local forecast to catch the critical things that are easy to miss.
- Keep a suggestion in your family’s inventory of items that move between homes, or add a one-off, like supplies for a weekend science project, to just this exchange’s checklist. Village keeps track either way.
- When your co-parent has joined, build the list for the days ahead, share it with the parent who has the kids now, and watch it get packed in real time.
- Pull from items already at the other home, or add anything you know the next stretch will need.
A shared custody calendar, clear at a glance.
Village’s calendar is built for shared custody and everything around it. Setup is simple: pick which parent has each day of the week, and flip a toggle for any day that alternates week to week. That’s enough to build week on week off, 2-2-3, every other weekend, or whatever pattern is yours. Every day is color-coded by whose time it is, the next exchange stays front and center, and events read clearly, so the whole picture makes sense at a glance. Change the schedule whenever life shifts, and past weeks stay locked for reference.
- Set your schedule in minutes: choose a parent for each weekday, then toggle the days that alternate week to week.
- Give every parent, child, and care category its own color, so who has whom is obvious at a glance.
- Tap any date to see that day’s events or swap custody for a holiday or one-off, and set the exchange time, which is when the handoff happens.
- Event icons show which child each event is for, and a ring flags when someone other than the parent on duty is responsible: the other parent, a trusted grown-up, or shared.
Shared tasks, fairly split and clearly seen.
So much of co-parenting is quiet, unseen work, and it rarely lands evenly. Village gives you a clear view of it all, a column for each parent, side by side, with active and completed tasks in the open. When your co-parent is on it too, the whole load is visible at once, so an uneven split is easy to spot and keep fair. On your own, you still see both columns, so every task and who it belongs to stays in view. Each task can also carry its cost, so the fuller picture is right there.
- A column for each parent, with active and completed tasks side by side, so an uneven split is easy to see and rebalance.
- Drag a task from one parent to the other to assign or reassign as plans change.
- Add the cost of a task, both the total and each parent’s share, so it lives with all the other details the task needs.
- Every task holds the details needed to finish it, with reminders so nothing slips, and completed tasks stay locked for reference.
Always know what’s at which home.
Co-parenting means a lot of stuff moving back and forth, and a lot of “have you seen the…” along the way. Village keeps a running picture of each child’s belongings across both homes, so the answer is always right there, no message required. Run it with your co-parent and you both see the same view. Run it on your own and it is still your record of what’s where.
- Track belongings for the whole family or filter by child. Each item sits with the parent who has it now.
- Drag an item to the other home to move it. Village asks you to confirm, then logs who moved it and when, so when your co-parent is on it too, every move stays accountable to both of you.
- At each exchange, everything packed moves to the other home automatically, so the tracker stays true without extra work.
- Tap any item for its details and full history, and pack reminders add what’s missing as needs change.
Communicate the details, without the text thread.
Text threads eat time, drift off topic, and are where small misunderstandings turn into friction. Village gives co-parents a place to share the details that keep a family running, on topic and easy to find. Most of it is already carried by the hands-on way you manage tasks and items. When something needs a word of context, leave a note and link it to the task or item it’s about. When your co-parent is on Village too, it replaces the back-and-forth of texting. On your own, it is still where you keep the details straight for yourself. Either way, a note stays put for as long as it’s needed, clear and in place, never buried in a thread of other texts.
- Link a note to any task or item that needs more context.
- Flag a child’s preference, a lost or outgrown item, or just give a heads-up.
- Pin a note to keep it at the top.
- Notes are color-coded to your preferences, so it’s always clear who’s sharing.
The full picture of each child, in one place.
Every child gets a profile that holds the full picture: birthday, school and bus details, allergies and medical needs, dietary needs, interests and activities, clothing and shoe sizes, right alongside their current needs and wish lists. When both homes and everyone who helps work from the same information, nothing important gets missed and no one is left guessing.
- Every detail that matters, from allergies and medical needs to clothing and shoe sizes, gathered in one place.
- Ready the moment you need it, at an appointment, a pharmacy, or a store.
- Choose what your village can see and what stays between co-parents.
- Anyone can claim an item from a child’s needs or wish list, so two people never buy the same thing.
Bring your whole village in.
Joint custody often means two homes and two extended families who love your kids but feel a step removed, unsure when the kids are around or how to pitch in. The Village page brings them in. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and close friends can follow the custody schedule and keep up with the kids, so they know when to reach out and how to help. And it lifts a quiet burden off parents, who no longer have to be the sole messenger relaying the schedule to everyone who loves their kids.
- Grandparents, family, and friends follow the same custody schedule, so they know when the kids are around and when to reach out.
- No parent has to be the go-between anymore, keeping the whole extended family updated on their own.
- Villagers can claim a need or a wish, hand down an outgrown item, or come through with a gift a child has asked for. A claim shows who’s got it, giving them the credit and keeping anyone from buying the same thing twice.
- Choose each person’s access as you invite them: Villager access to keep up with the kids, or Caregiver access for those you trust with hands-on care. Fine-tune exactly what any villager sees anytime in Settings.
